About Us
In the 1970s the Clamshell Alliance organized occupations of the Seabrook NH nuclear power plant site and inspired a national anti-nuke movement. Today, a tsunami of nuclear power propaganda is sweeping the globe. Nuke proponents and some activists claim that new nukes are urgently needed to avert a climate crisis. We say we do not need nuclear power. Renewable energy is safer, much less expensive and much faster to build.
A group of Clam members from the 1970s and ‘80s have been meeting, writing, and organizing a response to the nuclear industry’s plans to build a new generation of reactors. This group has been meeting via zoom since the fall of 2021, as well as in person for many years at the World Fellowship Center in Conway NH. Even though we are using the name Clamshell Alliance, we are not the same as organization as the one that had local chapters across New England and carried out the direct actions in Seabrook and elsewhere.
We are actively pursuing organizations to ally with this effort. Please share our statement and website with groups that you know that have the same goals and may want to join with us.
